I have a new found interest.
That is chinese calligraphy.
It is like painting. your brain has no other thoughts, except for the strokes. 直横撇捺点钩. (ok 钩 doesnt exist in 隶书 or the older calligraphic styles. it only began its existence in 楷书. The history of chinese characters is just so cool.) I really like such ... activities of high concentration. clear thoughts. it does. and it makes you happy when you see a full page of pretty words that you cannot believe you wrote it.
and chinese calligraphy is really much much cooler? fun? interesting? challenging? than english calligraphy. there are such too many things to consider in a character. the negative spacing. the strokes. the thickness of the strokes. the center of the character (apparently for a chinese character to look balance, the center should be slightly above. is our human eyes.) the relationship between one character and another. the flow of the stroke. e.t.c. it is just so intriguing. I cannot stop once i start. zomg.
Although my professor is scary, i think i made a right choice choosing chinese typography as my elective, instead of photography.
but zomg i am neglecting my english typography. I still have 10 more layouts. but calligraphy is just too fun.
